Terms of service

What you are agreeing to when you use Ask the Kitchen.

1. Who you are dealing with

Ask the Kitchen is operated by DKT Solutions Ltd, company number 08371093. Our contact details are on the contact page.

2. What the service does

You record what is in your kitchen. We suggest meals you can make with it, and search for new recipes when you ask us to. Recipes are written by other people. We link to the source and do not claim them as our own.

3. Recipes are suggestions, not instructions

Recipes come from third parties and we do not test them. Ingredient lists, cooking times and temperatures may be wrong or incomplete. You are responsible for cooking food safely, particularly meat, fish, eggs and reheated leftovers.

Allergy and dietary filtering is a convenience and not a guarantee. It works from recipe text and product data that may be incomplete or out of date. Always check the packaging. Where someone in your household has a serious allergy, our filtering should be treated as a first pass only. We cannot accept responsibility for an allergic reaction.

4. Your account

You must be 18 or over to hold an account. Keep your password confidential, tell us promptly if you believe someone else has obtained it, and give us an email address that reaches you. We use it for receipts and service notices.

You are responsible for activity on your account.

5. Plans, trials and payment

  • Free costs nothing, requires no card, and does not expire.
  • Home is £2.99 a month. Full House is £5.99 a month. Both include VAT.
  • Paid plans begin with a 14-day trial. Payments are processed using Stripe.
  • Cancel from your account settings before the trial ends and nothing is taken.
  • After the trial the plan renews monthly on the same date until cancelled. Cancelling stops the next charge. It does not refund the month in progress.
  • If a payment fails, it will be retried by the payment processor. If it continues to fail the account will move onto the Free tier.

Subscription prices may be increased once a year in line with inflation. We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email before any increase takes effect, and you may cancel before it applies.

6. Cancellation rights

You have 14 days to cancel a digital service and receive a refund. Because paid plans begin with a free trial, you can end the subscription before any payment is taken. If you are charged and believe you should not have been, please contact us.

7. Search allowances

Home and Full House include a monthly allowance of "Find something new" searches. One search is one use of that feature. Suggestions, cooking, and recipes already in the library are not limited on any plan.

Recipes discovered through your searches are added to a library available to all households. By using the service you agree to this. No information about you or the contents of your kitchen is shared.

8. Acceptable use

You must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service, scrape it, resell it, use it to extract recipe data in bulk, or upload unlawful content. We may suspend an account that breaches this, and will tell you the reason.

9. Availability

We aim to keep the service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change or withdraw features. Where a change materially reduces what you have paid for, we will notify you and you may cancel for a pro-rata refund.

10. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Otherwise, and to the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.

None of this affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

11. Ending your account

You can close your account at any time from your settings. We retain your data for 30 days afterwards and then delete it. See the privacy notice.

12. Changes to these terms

We will email account holders about material changes at least 14 days before they take effect, so that you can cancel if you do not accept them.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
